In this video you’ll get to learn about some of the the 25 million coffee farmers in the world who work hard to produce your morning joe. Amazingly, 70% of them get by on $1 a day or less. They often get paid only once a year after their harvest — all the risk is on them. That’s because they’re small farmers selling what’s after all a commodity not unlike sugar, corn, wheat and soy on a global market.
Now there’s a new initiative called After The Harvest that produced this film with funding from the Coffee Trust to raise awareness of the family farmers we trust to grow our coffee. It’s a collection of over 15 coffee organizations that seek to raise the profile, profits, and quality of coffee farmers so that we’re drinking a great cup of coffee and they’re getting a fair wage.
We’ll drink to that!
